Ministering Like Jesus: A Journey with Jesus through the Gospels As He Healed the Sick and Set the Captives Free!
is written as a practical guide to examining the ministry of Jesus Christ upon
the earth as He went about doing good – healing the sick and setting the
captives free. Jesus called His disciples to do the same works He did and more
because He is now seated at the right hand of the Father.
Jesus said:
“I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the
same works I have done, and even greater works, because
I am going to be with the Father."
(John 14:12, NLT)
This Ministry Training Guide, Volume 1 will take the reader on a journey along with Jesus through His miracles described in the four Gospel accounts: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Jesus ascended to the Father, leaving believers -- like you and me -- to fulfill the "Great Commission" of winning and discipling new believers into the kingdom of God. When Jesus walked the earth in human form, He not only preached and taught, but He also healed the sick and set the captives free. He even raised the dead!
Jesus’ disciples learned how to minister effectively to the sick and oppressed people of their time by walking daily with Jesus, watching Him do miracle after miracle, and receiving the authority and anointing Jesus imparted to them. Today, we can do the same works they did as we follow both the exhortation and example of our Lord and Master. Jesus is our Pattern for ministry. We will examine the works He did and learn how to minister like Jesus!
Pastors, believers of every denomination. . .
I urge you to use this Believers' Ministry Training Guide, Volume 1 as a guide to learning how to "work the works of Jesus (John 6:28)." These are only notes and leave plenty of room for insight and additional teaching from the Holy Spirit whether you are reading them for your personal use or teaching a class to equip other believers.
These notes are not only for information, but to put into practice. If in a class environment, I suggest you pair off or get in small groups, discuss the ministry principles you are learning and minister them to each other. In this manual, you will also be encouraged to develop your own personal walk with the Lord and increase your sensitivity to hear Jesus' voice more clearly as He directs you how to minister in His Name and in the power of His Holy Spirit.
Jesus sent His disciples out two by two, which offers safety, mutual support and courage. After finishing the guide and devoting time to self-examination and prayer, as you are led by God, you may want to go out in teams to witness and minister to those who live and work in your community. The Bible exhorts us that he who wins souls is wise!
Get ready for a great adventure. . . I pray God will instruct and anoint you with His love and power as you read this manual and begin to "go and make disciples" as Jesus admonished us (Matthew 28:19), not in man's ability or intellect but in the demonstration of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 2:4).
